You Create the World Around You

Stop living by what happened to you before. Start living by who God says you are.

Your past is just something that happened. It is not who you are.

What God Says

The Bible tells us these things:

• "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.": Proverbs 23:7
• "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.": Romans 12:2
• "He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.": 1 John 4:4

Your Mind Is Like a Path in the Grass

Think about walking through tall grass. The first time you walk somewhere new, it is hard. The grass is thick and pushes back. But if you walk the same path again and again, the grass gets flat. Soon there is an easy path, and your feet want to go there every time without even trying.

Your mind works the same way. Every time you think "I am broken," you make that sad path flatter and easier to walk. Every time you say "I am loved" or "I am strong," you start making a brand new path instead. At first the new path feels hard, like walking through thick grass. But if you keep walking it every day, it becomes the easy way, the way your mind wants to go.

What You Say Becomes What You Do

Think about two kids building a fort. One kid says, "I am building something amazing." The other kid says, "I am just trying, but it will probably fall down." Both kids pick up the very same sticks. But they build in very different ways, because of what they believe about themselves.

What you say about yourself is like a pair of glasses. It changes how you see everything, and it changes how you act. If you tell yourself the truth God says about you, you will build your day differently than if you keep telling yourself the old sad story.

What You Look At Grows

Here is something amazing about the world. The tiniest things that make up everything around us do not act like normal things until someone looks at them. Before anyone looks, they could still become many different things. Once someone looks with attention, they settle into becoming one real thing.

Your faith works a little bit like this. When you look at your life with hope and trust in God, you are not just sitting back and watching from far away. You are part of what happens next. What you keep your eyes on and believe in helps shape what actually becomes real in your life.

You Are Not Your Circumstances

Your circumstances are not your creator. Your history is not telling you what comes next.

You were never meant to just copy the world around you. You were made to be its author, someone who writes the story instead of only reading it.

Live From the Truth

Live from what is true, not from what happened before you. Not from what might happen next.

Every day, choose to believe what God says about you. Walk the new path even when it feels hard at first. Pick up your sticks and build with hope. Keep your eyes on the truth. You are loved. You are strong. You are being made new.
